Ready to Embrace Group Learning?

Maybe you’ve lived in France for years or maybe you’re a recent arrival but, as you are probably aware, Morzine is not the easiest place to practise speaking French.  Along with all the convenience of living in a community where there are a large number of English-speakers and where it is possible to carry out many of your daily tasks in English, comes the frustration of trying to find opportunities to interact in French.

While private French lessons are a great option for working on your individual needs, have you considered the surprising benefits of group French lessons? At PDS Formation, we’ve seen firsthand how group learning can be incredibly beneficial, especially for those looking to truly immerse themselves in the French language and culture.

Why Group Lessons are a great option

Group French lessons

Real-World Practice:

  • In a group setting, you’ll engage in conversations, role-playing, and debates, simulating real-life scenarios. You’ll learn how to handle spontaneous questions, understand different accents, and adapt to diverse communication styles – all crucial for navigating daily life in France.

Motivation and Support:

  • A group environment provides a supportive community where you can share experiences, encourage each other, and celebrate milestones.
  • A study published in the “Journal of Educational Psychology” found that students who participated in collaborative learning groups reported  higher levels of motivation and engagement compared to those who studied individually.

Diverse Perspectives & Cognitive Benefits:

  • Group discussions expose you to a wider range of vocabulary, grammar structures, and cultural insights. You’ll learn from your classmates’ questions and mistakes, broadening your understanding.
  • Studies have shown that group work increases cognitive elaboration, meaning that students process information more deeply when they have to explain it to others. As Albert Einstein said, “if you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough.”
  • Group lessons are often more affordable than private tuition, making them a budget-friendly option for long-term language learning.
  • Many of our lesson packages prioritise group sessions, potentially reducing or eliminating the e-learning requirement.

Director

Liz Palmer – Course coordinator

After gaining an English degree and a teaching qualification, I taught English GCSE and A Level in UK high schools while working with colleagues to develop teaching and learning strategies. Building on this, I've broadened my experience by teaching EFL to professionals in France. Learning French brought me valuable experience as a learner, which in turn helped me develop new teaching skills. Working as a training centre coordinator, I thrive on assisting our team of teachers as well as our learners on their path to learning a language.
